1970 GT suspension

Anyone (Joe P.....?) know how to determine if a Toro has the rumored Fe 3(?) heavy duty suspension without a build sheet? My 70 GT rides very rough in the rear (new rock auto Gabreil 82034 shocks) as compared to my 68 standard did (albeit 30 year ago memory). My 70GT does have Trailer light wiring in the trunk but am not sure if it is oem and there is remnants of a hitch being cut off the frame at some time,
Do you measure leaf width or thickness?
Thanks

At least per new car order form, there was no heavy-duty suspension, and it is not stated as part of GT/W34 performance package.
Closest thing would be G66 SuperLift rear shock absorbers, available on any Toro - they might be the answer to your issues.
Good luck.

The 1970 Toro had two suspension options, base and RPO F41. If the front torsion bars still have the assembly line tape tags on them (good luck with that, unfortunately), then it's easy to tell. Base suspension cars used torsion bars with "RD" and "LD" (RH and LH). The F41 cars used bars coded "RA" and "LA". The tape tags should be around the front end of each bar where it enters the lower control arm.

There were two different front sway bar diameters, but the difference was due to A/C or non-A/C and not related to base or F41 suspension. The non-A/C cars used a 1.000" front bar, the A/C cars got a 1.062" bar.

Rear springs were also different for base and F41 cars. Base springs were bare. F41 springs got a green paint dab, apparently behind the axle mount. Rear vertical shocks were also different, though I assume the originals are long gone. Base shocks were "DA" code, F41 shocks were "EG" code.

Thanks guys. I am assuming that new gas shocks just make these cars ride rough.

That could make sense. Toro's are a heavy car. The right shocks can make a big difference.

I have Gabriel 82040 in the rear of my '66 Toro and they are really stiff. I wish I could find something with softer valving.
