Question Needing a replacement kickdown switch

I thought a Transmission Kickdown Switch would be a common replacement part, but maybe it's not...

I need to replace the kickdown switch in my 1968 Toronado (located behind the accelerator pedal). The spring broke on mine so now the lever is not retracting. I took my old one to three different part stores this evening (O'Reilly's, Napa, & Autozone) trying to find a replacement.... They all looked at me like I was crazy, pecked, and pecked the keyboard... Then were like sir I have no idea... Unfortunately my old one is somewhat corroded and I am not finding any kind of numbers on it. Maybe I am calling it the wrong thing or something...

Does anyone know what the part # would be and/or where I can get a new one???

You're looking for part #401882, "Switch, Downshift," which fits '68 F-85 (ie: A-body), and '68-'70 Toro.

This guy has one, but it ain't cheap.

It sure looks a lot like the more common 1242101 switch to me.

I'm sure a member here has a used one for you.

The TH400 kickdown switch was used on many 1968-up GM cars and trucks, yet replacements are not available. Try Google for "TH400 kickdown switch" and you'll find many NOS and good used ones available at a wide variety of prices.

So, Joe, are the two different part numbers listed in the Parts Manual actually the same switch?

Every pedal-actuated TH-400 switch I've seen has looked the same, but I've never had a Toro, so I can't speak from experience.

I think I will try ebay first... I was not sure what to search for, but I did find one that says it came off a 1969 Toronado... Allot of them looked just like the one in mine, but sometimes things look the same and are completely diffrent...

I really don't want to pay $180.00 for a 45 year old new one...

Thanks for the help!!
