Question '88 Toronado / 440 - T4 Question

Does anyone here know if this transaxle has a temperature limit for overdrive to work? I've had a few colder days where I live and have noticed that I am not getting overdrive when I feel I should all the time...I also have noticed that the engine is running much colder...I plan to have my mechanic check the thermostat, but I was just wondering if the computer or something will prevent overdrive from functioning until the engine or transaxle is up to a certain temperature? I looked in my factory service manual and found no mention of anything...

A 88 model will have a TV cable. The only thing temperature controlled will be the lock up converter.
