Talking Lakewood Scatter Shield

On the Lakewood scatter shield there is a bolt hole which interferes with the clutch actuating rod coming off the Z bar. I ground it off and now it lines up. does not appear too critical and probably won't affect anything as these bell housings come with about a million bolts......

Did you try installing the rod from the other direction??
In '70, I picked-up a '68 Biscayne for a $100 'cause he couldn't keep a clutch in it - turned out, the 2nd gear rod would hang-up the clutch rod and it wouldn't let the clutch engage!
Switched it around, and sold it for $1000 a week later! [which was still cheap!]

Your issue is universal with the Lakewood for Olds, and has been for 35+ years. I actually sent one back to them, and they cut it off for me, didn't even recertify with a new sticker, and it cost me shipping both ways. I was worried about NHRA, but should not haave been. Rustoleum sunrise red is a good match to touch it up.
