1957 Oldsmobile - trunk spring/tension rods
I removed my trunk springs because the original trunk lid on my 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 2 door was so rusty I was afraid it would bend off when trying to close it. Over the weekend I was able to find a very nice used trunk lid to replace the old one. Was able to mount up all the old hardware and get it to open/close nicely. However, was not able to get the trunk lid rods back in place and attached to the hooks on the hinge springs. Is there a trick or certain steps to get those mounted correctly? Seems like they are under a lot of tension and just trying not to crush a finger!!! Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

Can it be accessed with the rear seat back removed? i think there is a piece of cardboard that would have to be removed first but with the trunk lid shut there should be very little tension on the rod. Not sure if that is even possible but might be worth a shot.

Thanks. Yes, it looks similar to what you posted. I was able to get the tension rods on this weekend. Took some serious effort with a prybar and a big screw driver plus a dead blow hammer but it's all back together. Thanks to everyone for you help.
