Question Olds 442 1971 - Remove rear trim

Hello guys, how are you?

I would like to remove the trim from the rear window as I would like to check if the whole glass is properly installed.
Can you tell me how to remove that trim without damaging it?
I don't know where to pull it without damaging it.
I hope you can help me.
Thank you.

Regards

Don't just pull on it. There is a specific tool to be used that will disengage the clips from the trim. I'm not sure which style/shape of clips retain the trim on the 1971 models, so I don't know which tool to recommend. Someone else will probably chime in with a tool number and/or picture. They are usually less than $20.

I think the pointy one is the one you need for that.

https://www.rustreplace.com/home/196...972-cutlass442

shows the clips

Hello.

Thank you for your help tkcutlass.
I don't quite understand what the rustreplace page says, but I will investigate it.
Some time ago, I bought this kit to remove moldings, but I understand that they will not be of much help to remove the moldings from the rear window, right?
Thank you.

Regards

None of the tools in Post #4 are correct. This is the tool I've been using for decades.

You slide one of the hooked ends between the glass and the trim and push it sideways until you catch one of the hidden clips. Rotate the tool to unhook the clip from the trim. Read this thread. Lather, rinse, repeat until you get them all. The bottom piece of trim is held with phillips screws that you access by opening the trunk.

Good morning guys.
Thanks for the help, specially to @joe_padavano and @tkcutlass .
Joe, I have not been able the tool in Spain , but I will try to locate in Europe, it is not easy but I will do it.
Regarding the front and rear windshield, are they attached to the body or are they installed through a seal?
Thanks guys.

Hi.
So, I understood that the glass is glued with silicone directly to the body, correct?
On the other hand, do you mean these clips?
Amazon Amazon
Thanks.

Clips and screws for the SS trim, the glass is mounted with butyl tape, although now days urethane caulk is used on most new vehicles.
Good luck!

Hello.
Thanks for the answer, I had never heard of butyl tape, yes about polymer for gluing windows, nowadays you see many videos of that type, it is like a kind of black silicone.
I will take the opportunity to review the sheet metal in case there is any area with superficial rust, although from the outside it seems that everything is in order.
Thanks.

Which clips are you trying to source, here is a pic of the fasteners for the SS trim on most Olds A body cars, AMK has many other trim retainers. This part appears to be OEM, and looks just like the SS retainers on my car.
