Suspension is just about ready to go on the frame.
These were masked, primed and painted with 2 coats of Cast Blast...then 2 of Matte clear.
I did these on my rallye years ago and they still look like fresh cast iron.
After receiving the trunk pan I dove in this weekend.
Found some shoddy previous repairs. Ordered some inner wheelhouse pieces to patch them up.
as i have sat in envy watching your progress,knowing how much i've been looking for a 65, this popped up on facebook last night, now i own a real deal 442 4 speed car, and will be embarking on the same adventure as you sir, i can't wait.
Progress! Wheel wells are in, trunk is just about buttoned up.
Needed to switch things up to keep it interesting…so started work on putting the frame and suspension back together.
The lower control arms fought me tooth and nail!!!
More “model car” pieces. But these ones were kinda shiny.
All of the cast iron pieces were actually primed and painted with cast blast…then a dull coat of clear.
This worked well when redoing my Rallye’s font suspension.
I do have to take the calipers off and coat them. I just mounted one for show.
Tackled the firewall today.
Spent a lot of time working on the contour of the firewall to hide any signs of the patch.
I think it paid off in dividends.

Thanks TJ...not bad for just starting to weld a few months ago. It just takes a little time to get the hang of it...then you get in a groove and think you can do anything!!!

Just got my new Eaton Detroit springs...I ordered them to factory specs and they seem QUITE tall.
I could barely fit them in...they better come down a TON when the body's on.
Center section is a Yukon limited slip with 3.55's and moser axles in a Chevy 12 bolt.
looks good Peter, my frame is getting powder coated as we speak. is that the stock rear end? mine looks different, the shock mounting points appear to be closer to the tires on mine.
No, this is a 12 bolt I got from my parts car. It was set up for racing moving the shocks inboard to aid movement and dampening.
It also has moser 31 spline axles and C-clip eliminators. Over kill for the car but it’s what I had!

This is going to look great when you are done. Since it is a real "D" code Lucerne Mist car I hope you paint it that color. My first 66 Cutlass vert was a D code Lucerne Mist with a light blue top and interior. My experiences you just don't see that color. Attached is a picture of my 66 the day I brought it home. I was never able to find another with my needs. Pictured is my 66 Cutlass vert with factory 4-speed etc. Love that color.
35TAC...yes, this car will stay DD- Lucerne blue with the blue bench and F-85 club coupe cloth interior.

I was very careful to look at a ton of reference pictures before I started closing up any holes.
We'll see in a few months how successful I was!
I did all the final prep work on the underside, bathed it in acetone and paint prep then took the plunge.
I used extreme chassis black with a primer first.
Turned out well...but despite using satin...I think it's a bit too shiny.
Nothing a few thousand miles can't fix I guess.
i think you need more practice on doing the trunk and wheel wells, you need to come do mine now...lol looks good sir. i can't wait to have the trunk done. i will be able to put it back on the frame by then, that to me is half way there.
have you picked out an exhaust kit yet? i'm searching now but debating on my budget. local shop that does great work told me 750-900 depending on what mufflers i use. kit's online are all over the place .
finally got my trunk pan today. did you cut your existing floor just in front of the rear brace? looking back at your pictures, that's what it looks like. i think i am going to stay on the chassis this week and get it done and ready to receive the engine when it comes out of the shop, which is supposed to be sometime this week or next. i don't want it sitting in my way in the garage collecting metal dust from the trunk pan. i have a portable garage set up on the side of my house right now with the frame, it can sit there for a week or so while i finish the trunk. goal is to be back on the frame by the end of the month. i have to flip the switch to christmas light guy after august, i am a partner in a major drive thru christmas light show and we have some work to do before octobers set up.
i will be doing the same with the front edge where the trunk meets the rear seat pan. where did you seam the rear by the trunk latch? did you use the existing brace or the new one that is attached to the one piece pan?
