Just wondering pro and cons of converting from external regulater to an internal regulater ? As well do the brackets need to be changed out as well or if a newer model will fit ?
Currently my regulater is bad and it's only 15 bucks more for a alt verses regulater
Thanks

The SI-family alternators are the internal regulator version used throughout the 70s and 80s. I actually prefer the early 1980s versions used on the 307 Olds. These are 78 amps and bolt right up. That's what I used when I converted my 62 F-85 to an alternator. Bill's right, there IS a version of the CS-130 that has the same mounting lugs. Unfortunately there are several versions that do not fit, so you need to be sure you get the right one if you go that way. The advantage of the SI-family is that the case looks similar to the older alternators. The CS-family is smaller and completely different. Either way works.

to the OP: whatever you end up doing, if you install a higher capacity alternator, you have to upgrade the output wiring accordingly.
the advantages to the 12si and cs130 are they both can put out nearly half of their rated outputs at an idle. the cs130 has a "soft turn-on" and superior load dump protection besides being good for sensitive electronics(as found in the vehicles they were used on).

If I understand correctly I disconnect the blue and white wire and run the brown wire from the external reg to the d terminal ?
