Edelbrock carb on a 66?
Mine came with some junk store brand “Autoline” q jet carb and I’d like to replace it with a Holley or Edelbrock, no more qjets please!
Would any of those fit in a 66 Toronado without sticking up too high and bumping into the hood?

It will be less expensive, less hassle, and better performing to get a correctly rebuilt Qjet. If you can't do it, find someone who has a clue about how to properly rebuild and adjust a Qjet. Most over-the-counter rebuilt Qjets are one-size-fits-none Frankencarbs and are poorly assembled. Find a correct original.

If you get a quadrajet from Ken at https://www.everyday-performance.com/ you will be happy with it. I have got a couple and some other people I know have also been completely satisfied with his carbs and service. Get in touch, he will build you one, or he will fix/rebuild yours if it is good enough to build.
I repeat, you will be happy, and he is a super nice guy.

You're asking for fitment and performance problems with Holley or Edelbrock on a Toronado.
Toro uses that "negative-rise" intake for hood clearance and those aftermarket carbs won't fit in there well. Add in choke and throttle linkage configuration and it's a buttload of aggravation.
What is the QuadraJet doing that is so bad? If it's a generic rebuild that's most of your problem. No telling what's inside it after 50+ years. But a QuadraJet is a fine carburetor that's often maligned by people who don't understand it.
IF your current carb is a correct Toro carb, recommend sending it to either Greg Kalkhoff www.sparkyscarbs.com or Don Monroe for a proper refurb and adjustment. For a 1966 dated carb it also needs the updated needle and seat if that hasn't been done already.
