68 Cutlass Supreme 2 Speed Jetaway fluid changing

You guys have walked by through changing almost all the other fluids in my 68 Cutlass w/ a 2 speed Jetaway transmission and 350 Rocket. I am wondering if the transmission fluid change is as easy as the differential oil.

-Drain/remove pan
-Remove and scrape the gasket residue
-Clean out pan with brake cleaner
-Install new gasket with rtv
-Reinstall pan
-Refill tranny fluid (4 quarts?)

Am I missing something here or good to go.

Might want to pick up a transmission filter.

It's pretty easy, just pushes on. It comes as a kit with a pan gasket.

Hopefully it will be a cork/rubber composite
gasket. No need for sealer with the right
torquing.

Start by removing bolts from one corner and
loosting the rest some. Don't forget a catch pan
to catch some of the oil.
1st timer huh? It will be messy. Try to pull it off
staight down and level after removing some of the
fluid. Let us know how it goes, old clothes and plenty
of grease rags.

You can probably get one through your local auto parts store and save the freight charge.

I don't typically use RTV along with the pan gasket. I'll just use some gasket tack on the pan rail to hold the gasket in place during installation. Also, don't over-tighten the pan bolts, which will distort the pan can cause leaks. Use a torque wrench to the factory spec. You will likely need to retighten the bolts after a while as the gasket compresses and relaxes.

Any idea what NAPA would carry the filter under? I found a Felpro gasket

I will look up the torque specs in my manual. Thanks.

The NAPAOnline website doesn't list a filter for the ST300. The Fram P/N is FT1014. RockAuto lists them under $3, gasket included. I attempted to cross this part number at the NAPA website with no success. You might try having them cross it in the store. Advance Auto also lists the filter under their Pro King line.

There are actually 2 Wholesaler Closeouts on rockauto...one from GK Filters for $2.88 and another from Pioneer for $1.88. Never heard of those brands before though. I will try to find a part number for a local store first.

Found these with your part number. The Wix kit comes with a 12 hole gasket though which needs to be the 14:
