Looks like it could be a 1971-1972 Buick(?) 8.5” 10 bolt.
Is there a drilled boss on top for the brake hose? Can’t tell definitively from the picture.
Post the entire axle stamping. It looks a lot like the ‘71-later stamping style with the axle ratio code and date.
And what do you mean by “nodular rearend”?

Thanks, it does looks like a 71 buick 8.5 i saw an N on the casting wish i thought was the stronger case and that the 10-bolt that Buick made is a very nice rear, and can take plenty of abuse. "The 71-up 8.5" 10-bolt is just as strong or stronger than a 12-bolt Chevy." so they say?

Yep, 10 bolt 8.5 1971 1972 era could be a OLDSMOBILE code as SD is 3.08 in olds too Buick in 1971 is LS and in 1972 it is LSB
SOOO...I AM PUSHING MORE TOWARDS THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 71 72 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS REAR.
Where is the axle tube code located and is it upside down or right side up with the rear in the car correctly.?
Has 3.08 (13 - 40) gears (thing is the gear set is a 1977 gear set...??? some one was in there...maybe even the posi might not be totally original either...??? )
and a
Original Borg Warner Cone posi.. 28 spline (I think those can be used in c-clip rears and BIA rears. Have to feel the side gears in where the springs are and see if you can feel a recess cut for c-clips.
Watch out those bottom out and then do not do posi after miles are put on them
I have only had a handful after 20 year for 1971 see a unit not need machine work to bring it back.
Only way you can tell is the take it apart and post pics of the cones to see if they rub in the wrong spots.
